In July 2000 Institutes of Educational Sciences (IESs) at the Universitat de Barcelona, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya organized the First International Conference of University Teaching and Innovation (CIDUI). The organizers were aware of living quick changes forced to attend, much more, continuous variability of things, that its stability and continuity. The new realities requested new self-learning professionals to confront/face new situations and coordinate and manage teams. The cooperation between these three IESs multiplied their effectiveness and their impact on the real lives of those universities. Thus, it was expressed graphically with the formula "CIDUI-IEC 3", with which it was convened, in 2001, the First International Symposium dedicated to reflect on models of initial training of university teachers in Europe. The way of organizing a biannual conference and a symposium between became ingrained. Gradually they were added to CIDUI other Catalan public universities. Currently, part Institutes of Educational Sciences of the University of Barcelona, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, the Universitat de Girona and the University of Lleida, the Unit of Teaching Innovation in Higher Education at the University Autònoma de Barcelona, the Center for Teaching Quality and Innovation at Pompeu Fabra and the eLearn Center of the UOC.
The conference is a unique and significant reality, a space for collaboration between universities of Catalonia, open to the rest of the Spanish universities and the worldwide. Organized by the Catalan public universities have been added gradually, in a process which we consider exemplary in its approach: it has started respecting the free will of universities and a loyal and generous cooperation of all. Over time, it has become a pluralistic institutional structure in which universities must share in many areas, work together as a single to innovate and improve. The accumulated experience and the positive balance CIDUI doing all institutions involved (different units comprise the ACUP universities) allow to consider the possibility of opening a new stage in the process of institutionalization of CIDUI, in a new framework for universities de Catalonia..
