Thematics and areas of preference
The 6th CIDUI, the general theme of which is “New areas of quality in higher education. A comparative and trend analysis”, proposes to discuss as preferential areas of debate the matters indicate below. These areas constitute the points of reference on the basis of which the different activities of the Congress will be organized. In each area of debate, preference will be given to proposals that show experiences in the context of centres and qualifications that have institutional support or commitment and have been validated as improvements or innovations for university teaching practice. Research or studies related to the general theme of the 6th CIDUA and which, in the opinion of the Scientific Committee, are especially relevant, may also be accepted as proposals.
The preferential thematic areas are as follows:
Area 1. Assessment and quality in higher education
In this area, the Congress will give preference to the following aspects:
a) Institutional experiences
quality in teaching-learning processes;
improvement programmes being carried out by the universities;
the professional development of teaching staff;
control mechanisms to guarantee the quality of new qualifications.
b) Experiences of groups of lecturers in areas or subjects
experiences dealing with the assessment of student learning;
organization of compared assessment proposals in areas or subjects that encompass related subjects;
significant continuous assessment experiences that let feedback be obtained and genuinely encourage self-regulated learning;
studies that evaluate student results and processes.
Area 2. Encouragement of interest, innovation or research groups in higher education
In this area, the Congress will give preference to the following aspects:
a) Institutional programmes of the universities
institutional initiatives that favour teaching improvement and innovation in universities, faculties and departments;
actions to implement the new qualifications;
support to the coordination of teaching and the work of teaching staff.
b) Experiences of interest, innovation and research groups in higher education
different types of initiatives for teamwork;
the organization of teaching based on active methodologies;
research on higher education;
experiences in managing the coordination of teaching staff;
more dynamic student learning through small research projects.
Area 3. Teaching planning, strategies and resources in the university classroom
In this area the Congress will give preference to the following aspects:
a) Experiences of universities, faculties or departments
support of institutions for the planning of new syllabuses in programming subjects or groups of subjects;
support of institutions to improve teaching materials and resources;
development of experiences and evaluation of the competences of a teacher;
planning of student end-of –year assignments and practical work during their studies;
support to networking of groups of teachers.
b) Implementation of new teaching plans in the new qualifications and innovative teaching strategies in the classroom
initiatives of teaching staff individually or in groups to improve classroom activities and teaching resources;
changes in teaching plans adapted to new syllabuses;
use of teaching strategies to motivate students;
use of technology that favours learning.
Area 4. Independent learning by students
In this area the Congress will give preference to the following aspects:
a) Institutional programmes for the improvement of learning
experiences for the implementation of active and cooperative methodologies;
educational experiences on student learning outside the classroom;
use of technologies that facilitate student learning in the new syllabuses.
b) The use in teaching of new software and state-of-the-art resources
non-face-to-face educational practice that teachers have carried out;
studies relating to the time students need to pass a subject or group of subjects;
experiences with educational technology to favour student learning;
personal learning environments.
Area 5. Internationalization
In this area the 6th CIDUI will give preference to the following aspects:
a) Institutional programmes to favour internationalization
student and teacher exchange support programmes;
projects for collaboration between different countries.
b) Professional teacher exchanges
personal exchange initiatives with teachers of other universities;
experiences of exchanges that can be useful to other teachers;
experiences of virtual exchanges of teachers and teaching research through wikisor other technologies.
The challenges of the University of today make it necessary to think about teaching action and university innovation from a comparative perspective that takes into account the regional, national, state, European and international level.
