New instructional models, powered by technology, competency-based pathways, and greater alignment with employer demand, are on the horizon. These new teaching and learning models are outlined more focused on the student, his profile and his motivations that we must know empirically to transform, consequently, the classroom and the institution. At the same time, the debate around refocusing higher education as a sector on its access, affordability and more predictable labor market returns among students is more alive than ever.<\/p>\n<p>Questions of how these new models will evolve, however, remain. Can online and hybrid learning models expand access and affordability without sacrificing academic rigor and deep connection that many campuses prize? Can business models shift to not only produce more postsecondary pathways, but also more graduates connected to the modern workforce to in turn increase graduates&#8217; return on investment?
