Resum


The paper presents a teaching innovation in higher education within Infant and Primary teacher education university degrees that promotes students’ development of critical reading competence of english texts. Critical reading strategies and materials used by the university lecturers participating in the project will be presented. The conclusions of the innovation case estudies indicate that the development of critical reading competence is not correlated with either the mastery of English or the specific subject matter language, and that an intentional and instrumental teaching promotes the development of critical awareness.
