Description of the sessions
Session 1 – Flexible education models
In this session we are looking to debate and reflect upon the educational responses that universities can offer to cater for student needs, employability and graduate competitiveness. Are current education models able to strike a balance between basic training, occupational skills and vocational guidance?
Session 2 – Relations between universities, companies and society
One of the challenges for universities is to strengthen vocational projects and to establish strategies to promote and improve relations between universities and companies. Universities need to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in their communities, putting local resources and services within reach. We must therefore generate new opportunities for innovation and development, promote the creation of new start-ups and open new lines of innovation and knowledge transfer.
Session 3 – Social responsibility and permeability at university
The concept of social responsibility draws on the idea of individual and collective commitment to society. This concept has gained in importance in the university world and emphasises university’s debt to society as a public service.
The session will work on experiences that have been major drivers of the Catalan university system from different knowledge areas; How universities are tied to their surroundings through social and change-focused processed; the consolidation of institutionalisation processes at each university; and also a shared framework from the perspective of universities’ social responsibility, as the core element of quality teaching, research and transfer.
